Day 1: What you should definitely be doing tomorrow night...

I'm heading down to a wedding where I may not have internet access, so my first post is going up a day early. "What?! That's cheating!" Cool your jets, Elroy. This post is actually about something awesome happening tomorrow, October 1st. Okay? Geez.

Not only does The Institute have killer and interesting burgers (I had a veggie burger with apple butter last time, and I've been drooling over the peanut butter, chocolate, bacon burger), they also have the perfect way to kick off The Great Pumpkin Project. Their THIRD ANNUAL CHARLIE BROWN GREAT PUMPKIN BEER FESTIVAL is going on all day tomorrow! Tons of Pumpkin Ale on tap, Charlie Brown movies, and Hay Bales, oh the Hay Bales! The Institute is located at 12th and Green (above Spring Garden). Check here for more info.

I'm headed to Delaware in search of more pumpkin, but never fear. I will be back on Sunday. I KNOW, I KNOW, don't worry! You'll get your full 31 days of goodness.

theweek.com/article/index/219483/the-great-pumpkin-shortage-of-2011

This article made me want to become a pumpkin hoarder. However , my local Whole Foods is currently still overloaded with this Halloween icon, so I will not be deterred! Coming Saturday! Let's do this.

COMING SOON!!! The 31 days of Pumpkin!

Everyone knows that science has proven autumn to be the best season of the year. The fall foliage, the crisp weather, baseball post-season, and most importantly...pumpkin flavored everything.

My original idea was to eat something pumpkin-flavored everyday for 31 days. That was until I realized neither my bank account nor my waistline could afford it. Still, I wanted to do something as an homage to God's greatest gourd/artificial flavoring. Ergo, everyday in October, I will be blogging about something pumpkinish.

Don't get me wrong, I still plan on devouring as much pumpkin product as I can, but I'm expanding my blog to pumpkin foods, drinks, events, and hard facts that I find at renowned, trusted Internet sites, like Wikipedia. And I need YOUR help! Got a great recipe? Know a restaurant with a pumpkin dish? Store up on pumpkin puree in October so that you can use it all year round? Tell me about it! Leave a comment or send me a message. I'd love the input!

Some things you should know about my blog:

1. I am not a foodie. While I love and can appreciate fine dining, I don't not pretend to be an expert on it. My favorite restaurants in Philadelphia are Fond and Zahav, but I'm also a girl who enjoys a heaping bowl of Fruity Pebbles for dinner at times. So if your one of those people who are all like, "How could she say that had undertones of coffee? It was nutmeg, I tell you! NUTMEG!" This probably isn't the blog for you.

2. I am not a purist. Some of the things that I make/try may not have actual pumpkin in it at all. I plan on reviewing things that have pumpkin spice, pumpkin syrup, or just taste like pumpkin for no discernible reason. So, is your gonna be all, "Ummm, there's actually no pumpkin in that pumpkin ale your having...", maybe you should find another bar, er, blog.

3. I am not a hippie. Yo, if I could wear hemp skirts, buy organic, support the farmers, and save the whales all the time, I would. But sadly, organic food is expensive, the last whale I met was a jerk, and hemp skirts make everyone's hips look big. Don't get me wrong, I'm a ova-lacto-pescatarian. But, some of the things I'll be purchasing will be from Whole Foods, and some other things are gonna be from Wawa. So all you "That donut was made from artificial food coloring that once wore fur to an awards banquet"-ers, let's take it down a notch. We're just here to have fun, and ingest some autumnal goodness.

Can you handle this much pumpkin? Can you handle this much awesome? Get ready. October 1st.
